China-Uzbekistan: ecology, environment and regional dynamics

Under this name, from October 11 to 15, 2019, in the People’s Republic of China, in the city of Urumqi, there was held the Symposium on mutual cooperation. The delegation of our University took an active part in the event organized by the Xinjiang Research Institute of Ecology and Geography of Academy of Sciences of China.

The event, the purpose of which was to study the environmental problems of the Aral Sea from the scientific point of view and eliminate its negative consequences, support cooperation between higher educational institutions of China and Uzbekistan, research institutes and relevant organizations, was attended by the leading specialists and scientific researchers of the Tashkent Institute of Engineers of Irrigation and Mechanization of Agriculture, the Uzbek National University, the Research Institute of Experimental Biology of genetics and plants of Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Research Institute of Botany, the Center for Advanced Technologies under the Ministry of innovative development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Aral Sea International Innovation Center under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The symposium lasted for four days. Within the framework of the event, the round table under the title “Ecological Problem of the Aral Sea Region” and scientific sections “Research and Development of Biological Resources”, “Land and Land Use”, “Water Management and Sustainable Development” were organized. Also, the trips to the Xinjiang Laboratory of the Research Institute of Ecology and Geography and the cultural and historical memorial “Turpan” were organized.

At the Symposium, Rector of KSU Akhmed Reymov and Professor of the Department of Ecology and Soil Science Svetlana Mambetullaeva made scientific reports on the problem of studying the ecology of the Aral Sea. There were also exchanged views on the scientific study of the Aral environmental problem, the development of joint projects and the exchange of experience of professors – teachers and researchers.

On this purpose the Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Xinjiang Research Institute of Ecology and Geography and Karakalpak State University.

In conclusion, between all the educational and research institutions, centers and organizations participating in the symposium, the Urumqi Declaration “On the joint initiative of China and Uzbekistan on the ecological restoration of the Aral Sea basin” was adopted.
