On February 12 of this year, the COP14 conference of participants of the “Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals” began in the city of Samarkand. The conference was opened by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan A.N. Aripov. The conference was chaired by the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Abdukhakimov.

The conference is attended by about 1,700 delegates from more than 130 countries, as well as observers from higher educational institutions, research institutes and non-governmental organizations of Uzbekistan. Among the observers from Karakalpak State University are the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Yakub Ametov, Deputy Dean for Scientific Work PhD, Associate Professor Amet Khabibullaev and basic doctoral student Kuralbay Turdybaev. The conference discusses issues of protecting migratory species of wild animals and preserving their habitat.

It should be noted that the CMS Convention was signed in Bonn (Germany) in 1979 and came into force in 1983. There are 133 countries that are members of the Convention, and Uzbekistan acceded to the Convention on September 1, 1998. The conference of participants of the “Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals” is being held for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan and will last until February 17.
