January 11th is the International Day of Protected Areas and National Parks

Every year, January 11th is marked as the “International Day of Protected Areas and National Parks”. This date has been set since 1997 at the initiative of the Center for Wildlife Conservation and the World Wildlife Fund in order to draw the attention of the general public to the development of the system of protected natural areas, the preservation of the natural environment, and the conservation and restoration of many species of fauna and flora, including endangered species.

On this date, a scientific seminar was organized at the Faculty of Biology on January 11th. The scientific seminar was attended by specialists from the “Sudoche-Aqpetki” reserve, the “Lower Amu Darya State Biosphere Reserve”, the “Aral Sea National Nature Park”, the “Saigachi” complex landscape reserve, as well as professors, doctoral students, master’s students and students of the Faculty of Biology.

During the seminar, specialists, professors and teachers presented their reports, telling about the importance of this day, the work being carried out in this area today, the state of biodiversity in the conditions of Karakalpakstan, the conditions created for conducting scientific research, specific shortcomings in the field, and interesting information obtained during the spring and autumn censuses. At the end of the seminar, the participants received answers to their questions. The event was held in a high-spirited and interesting manner.
