On June 19 of this year, a seminar was organized at the Faculty of Geography and Natural Resources and Biology Faculty of Karakalpak State University in cooperation with the German organization for international cooperation «GIZ» and the French organization «CIRAD» (development of international agriculture).
The professors and students of Geography and Natural Resources Faculty and Biology Faculty, representative of «GIZ» in Uzbekistan Mukhabbat Kamalova and experts of «CIRAD» Jean-Danel Cesaro, Audrey Zholivo and Simon Tanghurdu took part in the seminar – training.
At the seminar, Jean-Danel Cesaro made a presentation on «Mapping the Evolution of the Ecosystem in the Lower Amudarya Biosphere Reserve», and Simon Tanghurdu had a presentation on the theme «Putting the Ecosystem into Functioning and Monitoring of Plant Growth». In his presentation, Cesaro gave notion on the experience of using LandSat and Spot 6 satellites, as well as their functions and properties in satellite surveys. He also told about the process of mapping of the surveys’ results with the help of the «GIZ» program. Simon gave information on some methods of monitoring during the field works. He also told about the methods of plant classification and the search for information on plant characteristics with the help of mobile devices or Internet sites.
At the end of the seminar, the students received answers to their questions from the experts. At the end of the event, the guests visited the «GIZ» center at the University, had a conversation with the center workers and exchanged opinions on the Lower Amudarya Biosphere Reserve.
