Two and a half thousand years ago on the territory of present Kungrad the foundations of cities, fortresses, centers of science, education and culture were laid. In addition, the Kungrad region is considered one of the largest regions in its territorial scale and historical monuments.
Recently, Director of the Museum of Remembrance of the Repression Victims at Berdakh Karakalpak State University A.Kudiyarov, the museum employee A.Alimbetov, the fourth-year student of the History Department G.Karimov made their scientific trip to Kungrad.
During the trip, a conversation took place with a resident of Z.M.Babur Street of the Kungrad region, a member of the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan, writer Omirbay Embergenov, and also data were recorded on the historical figures of the Kungrad region subjected to repression, as well as documents of some individuals who were repressed in 1937 were transferred from the home archive to the museum fund. In addition, in Karakalpakstan in 1933, who participated in the ethnographic-linguistic expedition under the guidance of A.A.Sokolov, professor of the integrated research institute, were sent to prison in 1937 with the charge “Enemy of the people”. Also we visited the families of Polat Kosekeyev and Sveta Kosekeyeva, residents of Kh.Bekniyazov Street in the Kungrad region, the son and daughter of O.Kosekeyev, who was sent to a forced labor camp in Magadan, and some of his photos and documents were taken to the museum as exhibits. Also during the visit, we visited the burial place on khanzhap Square, where on December 17, 1929, GPU officers shot 18 civilians without passing a court verdict, and the survivors were buried alive. We also photographed a recently installed monument.
In addition, we visited the family of Kudainazarov Lepesbay, who was the director of the cotton factory in 1985 in the Kungrad region and was detained in the “cotton case”. His accessories, used during work, photographs and some documents of that time were taken to the museum fund; the notes about difficulties of that time were made according to his wife’s words.
We hope that materials, historical books and documentary photographs taken during the trip will further enrich the museum fund and become a very important scientific source of information for students, undergraduates and young researchers of the museum.
A. Alimbetov,
the museum employee.
