January 15-16 – Waterfowl Record Day

On January 15-16, dedicated to the International Waterfowl Record Day, there was organized an expedition on the Ashikol and Koskol Lakes in Nukus. The expedition was attended by Dean of Biology Faculty of Karakalpak State University named after Berdakh, Doctor of Biological Sciences Yakupbay Ametov, Head of the student ornithological club “Otus”, PhD in Biological Sciences Islambek Arepbaev, junior researcher of the Karakalpak Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan G. Matekova, professors-teachers, doctoral students, master students and students of Biology Faculty.
The expedition started from Ashikol Lake. According to the results of ornithological observations on Ashikol Lake, 1074 birds belonging to 18 species were registered. It should be noted that during the survey of Lake Ashikol, 2 swans (Cygnus olor) were recorded, listed in “The Red Book” of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The expedition continued its work on Lake Koskol in Nukus. According to the results of ornithological observations, 138 birds belonging to 8 species were registered on Lake Koskol.
