On May 1-2, 2023, a Scientific and methodological workshop of the Central Asian University Partnership (UniCEN) Program was held in Samarkand, in which the head of the Department of English and Literature of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of KSU, associate Professor, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Zernegul Uteshova took part in order to unite with scientists and researchers from Uzbekistan and other parts of the world to expand modern knowledge and practical training in the field of language education and implementation of partnership action plans and cooperation in cross-border projects.
This two-day intensive workshop on research methodology was supported by the U.S.-Central Asia University Partnerships Program (UniCEN), which was funded by the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan and administered by American Councils for International Education.
Professor Khanjan Mehta, Vice Provost for Creative Inquiry and Director of the Mountaintop Initiative at Lehigh University, Dr Jay Turner, Head of the Division of Engineering Education, Washington University in St. Louis and Dr. Hamid Reza Shahbazkia, Associate Professor, School of Law, Technology and Education Westminster International University in Tashkent, conducted interactive trainings on research methodology to enhance the research capacity of Central Asian faculty members, increase the number of joint U.S. Central Asian publications submitted to international journals, and promote interdisciplinary and regional cooperation across Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and, possibly, Turkmenistan.
The workshop was focused on topics such as qualitative and quantitative research methods, research justification, research hypotheses and statements, data collection and analysis, references, academic integrity, and the nuances of academic journal writing and the publication process.
In addition, all participants of this workshop had a chance to practice the tips on how to begin outreach and continue communication with U.S. university representatives and provide templates to ensure effective communication with U.S. colleagues.
