Economic and Social Geography Department was formed on the basis of one of the oldest departments of the university, it was first named when the Department of Geography was divided into Physical and Economic Geography of the Faculty of History-Geography in 1992. In 1992-1997, the Department of Economic Geography was headed by Assoc. Prof., E.K. Umarov. In 1997, Physical and Economic Geography Department was transformed into the Department of Geography. From 2009 to 2015, it was headed by Assoc. Prof., G.A. Khodjaeva, from 2015 to 2019 – Assoc. Prof., N.J. Embergenov. In 2019, the merged department was renamed into the Department of Geography and Hydrometeorology, and Assoc. Prof., Allanazarov was appointed head of the department. From October 2, 2020, this department was again divided into two departments: “Physical Geography and Hydrometeorology” and “Economic and Social Geography”. At present, Economic and Social Geography Department is headed by Assoc. Prof., G.А. Khodjaeva.

In the 2021-2022 academic year, Economic and Social Geography Department has 8 full-time jobs, currently there are 9 professors and teachers: including 1 doctor of sciences, 2 candidates of sciences, 2 senior teachers, 3 assistant teachers and 1 trainee teacher, as well as 3 doctoral students conduct scientific research. Professors and teachers of the department take an active part in teaching and pedagogical, research and educational work. Despite being a young department, over the past 3 years, professors and teachers of the department have published 1 monograph, 5 textbooks and manuals and more than 20 articles in scientific journals: 6 articles in foreign scientific journals and 3 articles in international journals (Scopus, web of science, google scholar), more than 50 articles and theses in the collections of international and republican conferences.

The department has concluded agreements with a number of leading universities of the republic for the training of scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel. Basically, this is with the National University of Uzbekistan, Samarkand State University, Urgench State University, the Institute of Seismology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Karakalpak branch of the Institute of Irrigation and Water Resources of the republic, which give great results.

Currently, under the leadership of DSc., I.R. Turdimambetov is implemented a state-funded practical project, “FZ-201908019 – ” Development and use of nosogeographic maps to improve the medical and geographical situation of the Republic of Karakalpakstan “. This topic is designed for 3 years and 690 million soums have been allocated. As a result of the research, recommendations will be given on improving the medical and geographical situation of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and nosogeographic maps will be developed.

Bachelor, magister and doctoral students participate in research work on the state fundamental and applied topics of the department, based on the results of the study, recommendations are made to improve the medical and geographical position of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

At the department, a basic target doctorate was organized in the specialty of 11.00.02-Economic and social geography, where 3 doctoral students are currently carrying out their research work: M. Otuliev, K. Utarbaeva and Urazimbetova Yu.

Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor, Khodjaeva Gulya Ashirbaevna,

Born on March 8, 1968 in Takhiyatash town. In 1990 she graduated from Nukus State University. In 1998 she defended her doctoral dissertation (PhD) theme on “Geodemographic situation and regulation of the development of the population of Karakalpakstan.” She is the author of over 120 scientific and methodological works. Of these, 1 monograph, 2 teaching aids, 4 methodological manuals were published. Since 1990 she has been working at the Department of Geography. Since 2020 she has been working as the head of the Department of Economic and Social Geography.

 

 

 

Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor, Turdimambetov Izimbet Rakhmetovich.

Born on September 16, 1976 in Khojeyli district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. In 1998 he graduated from the Karakalpak State University. In 2005 he defended his Ph.D. thesis on the theme “Medical and geographical analysis of the Amudarya delta and improving its sanitary and hygienic situation”, in 2016 he defended his doctoral dissertation (DSc) on the theme “Socio-economic features of improving the nosogeographic situation of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.” He is the author of over 100 scientific, scientific-methodological manuals, articles and theses. Of these, 1 monograph, more than 10 teaching aids were published by the publishing house. Based on the results of research work, he took part in seminars and conferences in countries such as the Russian Federation, Austria, Turkey and Kazakhstan. Currently, he is the scientific supervisor of doctoral students of basic target doctoral studies at the department, specialty 11.00.02 Economic and Social Geography. Since 1998 he has been working at the department. Since 2018 he has been working as Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs and Innovations of the Karakalpak State University.

 

 

 

Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor, Embergenov Naurizbay Janabaevich.

Born on March 12, 1976 in Khojeyli district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Graduated from Karakalpak State University in 2004. He defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Changes in the growth and distribution of the population of the Republic of Karakalpakstan”. He is the author of over 50 scientific and methodological works. Of these, 1 teaching aids, 3 methodological manuals were published by the publishing house. Graduated from the Cairo Demographic Center in Egypt in 2008. Based on the results of scientific research, he has been a participant in seminars and conferences in countries like Austria, Spain and Kazakhstan. He has been working at the department since 2004. In 2015-2019 he was the head of the department. Since 2019 he has been working as the dean of the Faculty of Geography and Natural Resources.
